Incorrecto.

URL rewriting is precisely to identify a session without cookies.  As to why your
URL doesn't show up I don't know.  If you have JRun check the code for
SessionServlet.  Otherwise I'm sure there is some sample you can look at.
Remember that you have to click on the link and not just reload the page to get
correct behaviour.
