Servlet gurus,
What is it with servlets that makes it so difficult to create dynamic web content quickly and easily!? Now, I'm not talking about creating an entire "Amazon.com" out of servlets, I'd probably use JSP for that. What I'm trying to figure out is why there isn't an EASIER way to just whip up a servlet which allows for dynamic web content for web forms, proof of concept, prototyping or development work. You'd create a servlet, throw in some html and boom, your done. I've tried to "whip up some quick servlets" and with all of the out.println("..."); it takes hours to create even a small web page from a servlet and it's usually full of bugs. It's difficult to quickly use JSP because you have to significantly alter your HTML pages in order to make it interact with the servlet. Is there no tool out there that can help with this problem? Well, I've been asking myself that question for a
few months (about the same time I posted this question in August and received
and tumultuous response from others asking the same question). So I've created a
free utility that takes care it for us. It's called Streamlet. It's very basic
and still in the beta stage, but it's a HECK of allot better than personally
coding the infamous out.println("...") into your servlets for prototyping work.
Over the course of creating Streamlet, I've probably used it a 100 times on
different web pages and found it to be VERY effective. It's GREAT for creating
servlets for forms on your web page. If you're interested in Streamlet, you can
download it for FREE at www.cipherstream.com/streamlet.html.
BTW - Since the Connection Pool class I have is so
popular, I thought I would give out the link again for those who missed it. It's
also free at www.cipherstream.com/conPool.zip
(my dang web server is case sensitive, so make sure your case is correct if you
cut and paste).
