Cold Fusion and servlets

This is an interesting question to which I don't have an answer. However, I would like to ADD to this question. How about Cold Fusion, it works in much the same way, in that there are several tiers which seem to replace the need for servlet technology all together. If I want to acess DB data I can use Cold Fusion to do this for me. Is there any way(or reason) to use cold fusion in unison with servlets or use servlets INSTEAD of Cold Fusion? Speed, Security, functionality?
