You just need to send an email when some condition is met latter on. The servlets in the setup are really the "data entry" pieces you need to build some monitoring and processing pieces somewhere. Are you writing some sort of report/processing engine? This could be in any language, it just needs to be able to read/write to the database. This piece could be running all the time (on another server in fact) and "looking" for the conditions you've setup and then building reports or triggering other applications or processes to startup.
