Agreed.
I am not sure where the statements regarding JDBC
compliance were going, but the drivers have been dong
fine by me. The performance has been more a function
of the version of he JDK than anything else.
As far as which version, OCI vs. Thin, I propose the
following stipulations:
1. This is the ONLY choice for applets. The OCI
version will not work unless you play games with
security policy files and signed applets.
2. During "normal" use, the latest version of the
drivers (generically referred to as 8i versions) both
perform almost identically, with OCI having an almost
negligible lead.
3. The OCI version of the driver does have some
proprietary performance extensions that the thin
driver does not, the use of which may enhance
performance above that of thin.
In my opinion, the most significant performance
feature of the OCI driver is the ability to connect
via bequeath, which offers considerable performance
benerfits when the client (possibly a servlet) is
running on the same machine as the database.
That's my 2 cents.
