Hi Moloy;
I was in much of just the same position last month, but instead of bonds
I had to do credit card virtual terminal interfaces with DB2 (not Oracle)
access.... WITH NO JAVA EXPERIENCE!
This is a very "high-level" project plan, but it worked.
I did it in 2 weeks, and this is how I did it:
1. APPLET: Define a simple UI in some good Java tool (JBuilder is good.)
Careful with MS VJ++ because it doesn't integrate well with
some JVM's. Build your interface, and debug it. Keep it Simple!
2. SERVLET: Build a servlet that accepts a URL with the necessary
URL param strings. Next, work on the JDBC calls. I had a good background
in Microsoft ADO/RDP, so it was no problem for me. Your Oracle experience
will help for you too here, also. Debug without any HTTP/Browser
interaction.
3. Experiment with putting your applet on a web page -- this souldn't be
too
difficult, but things can happen.
4. Once your servlet works standalone, you can put code in the
"doGet" to get url paramters, and make it "hook up" to the session.
Same with the Browser applet.
5. Now you integrate the HTML, Applet, and Servlet.
One Other thing:
The last thing you need in a tight development schedule are variables...
Use you OWN web server on your own workstation... I use Apache with
the servlet extensions. Why? because its free. JSP pages are hard
to configure, but thats another story.
Hope this helps, and good luck!!!

Subject: I need help.....

Hi
This is Moloy Biswas from India, I am a programmer, I have done software
development in D2K with ORACLE in the back. But now I have been given a
project which I have to do in JAVA and Oracle in the back.
I almost covered all the topics given in Java tutorials till Creating
User Interface. Now the problem is that I am not very sure where from I
should start my project because it is almost different from the client
server architecture. I am totally confused and I do not know what to do
next.
My project includes fixed deposit and public bonds and the financial
part of it. It is not a very complex one but I am not very sure how to
go about it. I am doing the project alone.
So somebody please guide me. I will be forever grateful to you.
Moloy Biswas
