Hello Moloy,
I'd first start with defining the specifications for the application and the
functionality desired.

Then i'd decide what technology/technologies are at my disposal to be used
and select the right technology based on the needs of the application.
There's a lot out there, but a good initial choice could save you a lot of
troulbe later. For example, should I use Servlets as a middle tier between
your application running in the browser and the back end database? Should I
use applets / HTML forms for your front end UI; How extensively will I be
using JSP, if I use it at all in the front end. Do I need Dynamic content to
be generated, if so, will I use DHTML or Servlets. What's the browser type
that I can be limited by etc. etc .etc...

Once I've decided on the technologies that i will be using, I'd start
putting together a high level design for the application including object
hierarchies and object relation ships. You could use the IS-A, HAS-A
relationships to establish object and interface design. I wish I had a good
java design reference, but I don't if some one else may have a good pointer
to a book on designing java applications that maybe a help for you.

In short:
1) Figure out what I will do on the front end(broser end) for the UI.
2) Figure out what I will do for the middle tier(if I use one in the first
place) i.e servlets
3) Figure out what I will do for the back end(database)

Plug it all together and pray to God it jut work ;-)

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi

This is Moloy Biswas from India, I am a programmer, I have done software
development in D2K with ORACLE in the back. But now I have been given a
project which I have to do in JAVA and Oracle in the back.

I almost covered all the topics given in Java tutorials till Creating
User Interface. Now the problem is that I am not very sure where from I
should start my project because it is almost different from the client
server architecture. I am totally confused and I do not know what to do
next.

My project includes fixed deposit and public bonds and the financial
part of it. It is not a very complex one but I am not very sure how to
go about it. I am doing the project alone.

So somebody please guide me. I will be forever grateful to you.

Moloy Biswas
