A quick reply to the original posting. As a background, I am the lead
of the expert group that did JSP 1.0 & JSP 1.1. Comments are intermixed
below.

I think there are at least two interesting threads that were started by
this message, and I'll reply to them in separate messages.

A JSP gets compiled into a Servlet, so no more than a Servlet does, and
actually JSP allows for specialized implementations that could be faster
than a plain Servlet for some specific pages. The implementations are
just starting to appear, and some of them are reporting very good
numbers for JSP pages.

No; see above.

Some of the implementations are claiming JSP performance that is very
close to static pages.

The JSP pages have some useful information but you may have already read
them. One of them is a FAQ that we plan to extend with more technical
FAQ. The home page is at java.sun.com/products/jsp; I've included a
list of some useful URLs in there at the end of the message.

The main discussion list is [EMAIL PROTECTED] It is a sister
list to [EMAIL PROTECTED], so the same mechanisms for
subscription and unsubscription apply. It is a pretty good mailing list
with good signal/noise ratio despite its large subscription. Check
http://archives.java.sun.com for more details.

Hope this helps,
