First get and install java - JDK1.1.8 will do it. This is at

http://apps.alphaworks.ibm.com/technologies/linuxjvm/ibm-jdk-l118-linux-x86.
tgz

You may as well use Java 1.2 but this is not necessary for newbee (and
frankly
for me so far).
Then obtain and install the Apache JServ 1.1 from java.apache.org. This is
at

http://java.apache.org/jserv/dist/ApacheJServ-1.1-1.RH6x.i386.rpm

And that's all. IMPORTANT! Install and configure JDK first if you do not
want
to amend the .conf's manually.

That's enough to get started. Three cheers.

Subject: Newbee question

Hi,

I'm new to Servlets (but not to Java). Could someone give me some pointers?
What do I need to get started? Our platform is Linux and Apache. Thank you
very much.
