A group of servlet FAQ writers and active Servlet-Interest
participants has set up an eGroups mailing list for discussion of
advanced servlet topics.
Servlet-Interest serves an important purpose as a public forum for all
kinds of servlet discussion. The members of Advanced-Servlets will
continue to participate in Servlet-Interest. But lately the list
traffic has risen to a level that makes involved discussion of
advanced topics difficult. Advanced-Servlets will be the home to an
informally moderated (but strongly moderated) discussion of advanced
topics.
Advanced-Servlets will be, as the name indicates, for advanced
discussion only. The list is moderated by us to prevent off-topic
discussion, or at least prevent discussion of Oracle JDBC drivers, the
price of RAM or the best route from Paris to Bonn.
While the Advanced-Servlets crowd will hold itself to a high standard
of quality in what we post, that doesn't make it an exclusive group.
It's not about what we know; it's about how much courtesy, attention
to communication, and respect for the time and energy of list
participants that we're willing to exercise. Even if you don't think
you're ready to write advanced servlets yet, you're welcome to come on
over and hang out, as long as you play by the posting rules.
