Servlet programming models

I fully agree with this article : http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-1999/jw-09-servlet.html?IDG.net       Do you know if such event/delegation model already exists in a product or is subject to some "standardization effort". I feel that there exist a big gap in the current J2EE models between Servlets and EJB, such models could fill the gap.   I don't know if this subject has already been discussed, or if it is the right place ?
