Or maybe you are TOO smart to use an IDE. I have used IDEs on and off for years now. There are a lot of things about VisualAge for Java that I like. NetBeans is cool. JBuilder is alright. In the end though, I seem to be finding that a good editor (I use Lemmy...and Windows-based vi clone) and a fast compiler (I use Jikes) with a small handful of scripts/batch files that make compiles easier works just fine. Most of the time spent in code development seems to be editing and compiling. I am (of late) taking the approach of optimizing these two tasks. Fast/good/efficient editor.
