I want to send some mail from a servlet. I know
about the JavaMail API, but I have the following
question. Seems to me that using JavaMail puts
all the burden of error checking and queing on
your servlet. In a Unix environment, wouldn't it
be much better to do a Runtime call to sendmail
and pass the message off? That way the unix
queing mechanism will worry about what to do
if the receiving machine is down for a while or it's
DNS resolution is flakey, etc. Is there some penalty
for doing this that I haven't thought of?
