I would recommend having a look at javacorporate.com - the "Project Portal"
is an complete live example of an application using JSP/Servlets using
Session management, MVC, redirecting, logging, tracing, etc. The Project
Portal lists javacorporate's projects: open source (Expresso, eForum, Search
engine); and community source (offered as subscription licensing) including
ePortal, eContent, FAQ, HelpDesk components.
The Expresso Framework is open source and provides many such components such
as session management, db connection pooling, logging etc.
The site is hosted with Servlets.Net. I recommend them highly - have a look
at their testimonial page onsite and you will be very impressed. Their
service is first rate!!
