AFAIK, yes and no ...

No, there is no restriction when working on simple hello world programs.
Yes, there is a restriction. When you serialize some data, only the first
<could someone fill this in> characters of the string are being serialized !
I was amazed to find that out. So, be careful when saving objects to file,
using RMI, storing them in sessions, and much more ...

As a guide, I try to keep my strings simple and short, and use StringBuffers
for anything else.
