I've been a customer of VisualCafe since the prerelease Cafe days.
I've used VisualCafe 3 and 4 to debug servlets (by running Jetty
or Jakarta under VisualCafe).
I'm looking to use something else. VisualCafe 4 is just as unstable
as the pre-release versions - for which there is no longer any excuse.
It works pretty well for writing applets and stand-alone applications
but I find it not well organized for writing servlets.
Not that I've found a tool I *really* like ... yet :).
VisualAge for Java is pretty neat but uses proprietary file store
and a rather clunky editor. Of course, if you think Notepad is a
good editor, this won't bother you :). If you work alone the ghetto
you are forced into by the proprietary file store won't bother you.
There are some really nice ideas in VAJ, but I think I've finally
given up on this tool.
The latest version of Kawa is interesting. Still a little flakey
at times but not nearly as bad as VC4.
Guess I should try Visual J++ again...
