you can use the method HttpServletRequest.getHeader("User-Agent");
this will return you info about the client software
for eg: MSIE 4.0 running on windows 95
will give the output for the above as
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.0; Windows 95)
