I fully agree!!
access is a heap of shit!
the only reason why I (was) using it was for developing purposes. I am writing
a program that interfaces large databases - the consumer company should be
able to run it on any database. When i'm developing, i probably won't have any
more than 20 records in each table, and i thought the access db might be the
easiest to maintain (i'm leaving the url and driver  strings configurable)

now you know why i was using access - it actually runs really quickly when
there are 20 records :)
