It should be the environment variable "classpath" rather than the "path".
And you include the pointer to your JSDK's jar file in that. Restart your
Win98. That is all.

Thank you for your help, the problem is I'm using windows98, I think you are
using windowsNT, right? I followed your instruction, and did following:

1. modify my autoexec.bat file, add c:\jsdk2.1\servlet.jar into PATH
variable
2. copy servlet.jar from jsdk2.1 into jdk1.2.2\lib

but the error messages are still there, I knew there must be something
wrong, but I don't know how to fix it, would you please give me some more
info?
