How use RMI in applet-servlet communication?

hi,
       I am now trying  to use RMI to implement the applet-servlet
communication . I used the example provied in Jason Hunter's book,
Charpter 10. But I can not make it work correctly. I guess maybe there
is some error when dealing registry.But I do not know how? Does anybody have such 
experience and can you share it with me?

       I use RedHat 6.0 + Apache1.3.6 +ApacheJserv1.0+JSDK2.0+JDK1.2
in server,and use IE4.
