The standard way, according to the JSP 1.1 spec (page 80, section
3.4.2, "Precompilation protocol"), is to pass a request to the page with
a "jsp_precompile" param. This will cause the JSP container to compile
the JSP without passing the request to the JSP page. As long as you make
sure that the timestamp of the class files are later than those of the JSP
files
then this should be enough.
For particular implementations, I think that ServletExec 2.0 has a web-app
flag which tells it to recompile each JSP upon startup if required. This
should save you the extra delay on the first hit. (Does anyone know
what I'm talking about? Couldn't find a specific reference right now).
