Actually I think that they just do a redirect to an FTP
server. They probably do it for two reasons: 1) So that they know that
you've gone through their license agreement, 2) So that if you need to be
registered they know that you have been.
Also to annoy all of us savvy users so that we can't just get the
latest and greatest simply, but instead have to deal with all of this
crap. >:|
