there's a book about java performance (i think its an addison-wesley
imprint) in which the author mentions that he found jsp to be about 15%
slower than 'handmade' servlets. this is mainly due to the fact that a
programmer will be smarter about string processing than a generic code
generator is when parsing a jsp into servlet code..
