I'm putting this here because it is *interesting* to servlet
developers - though it may not be directly relevant.

There is a lot of interest at the moment in functional languages
compiled to JVM byte codes.

There are a few Scheme implementations and I know of at least one ML
implementation and 2 attmpts at Haskell (which seems on the face of it
a good fit though it has been the least succesfull so far).

At least some of this interest seems to be generated by the desire to
write servlets in functional languages.

BRL is an existing project which utilizes one of the Scheme-JVM
implementations to allow pages to be made dynamic with Scheme. There
is some debate at the moment about how functional this should be.

GNU-Paperclips is going to be using BRL as an alternative to JSP. I
prefer BRL semantics and think that the opportunities are too good not
to explore. For example, imagine being able to mathematically prove
(using a technique called induction) that your dynamic webpages
function as expected!

I have been thinking about wider support for functional languages. It
will most likely come as functional->JVM implementations improve.

If anybody wants more information please feel free to contact me
directly.
