I am currently working on a project that needs a whole bunch of features
(database searches, e-commerce, stat tracking, login functions, and SSL
off the top of my head)

Originally I took the approach of using JSP or Servlets to tie in the
front-end, the e-commerce interface, the database, and any other parts
that we end up needing to pull together. However, yesterday at a meeting
I was presented with the fact that many of the e-commerce packages claim
to do all of these things themselves. So, I'm hoping that someone out
there might have some better ideas than I about the pros and cons of
each side. Thanks for any input.

Oh, and please, noone say that packages are bad because all packaged
products inherently are. I hear it a lot from programmers and to a
degree, I'm leary of the packages for that reason, but it unfortunately
I can't say that to my boss :)
