You might want to have a look at the open source (Apache Style) Expresso
Framework available at www.javacorporate.com as it offers a comprehensive
connection pooling component, as well as user authentication, security,
access to databases, email connectivity, job control, health check, logging,
event notification, database objects, configuration values, and access to
other server-side components. There is also the open source Expresso J2EE
project for EJB/J2EE integration, and the open source Expresso XML project
for XML import/export.

The Express Framework has well over 24,000 downloads to date and so offers a
stable, tried and true foundation - so that the developer can jump start
development - and focus on application logic. The site also has a very
strong user community listserv of well over 2000 members. Premium support
is available for a fee for direct support from its full time developers.

You can download without registering at:
http://www.javacorporate.com/components/helpdesk/jsp/projframe.jsp?category=
65 (please get full url).

Release 2.1 early access was released a week ago and is now available for
download. Additional eService resources and early access releases are
available freely to registered users.
