There may be at least two different type of problems:

1. In the first case, you haven't overrided Applet's 'init()' method, which
is the same as main classes 'main(String[])' method -with a difference:
'main' is public and static, while init() referes to instance, not to class,
and shall be 'public' only.

2. Some Swing classes are not included, and JVM cannot find them. While
developing applets which included not JDK1.1-compliant classes, you're
better include ALL of them in a .jar file, which you may referer thru
'ARCHIEVE=' attribute. I often include classes like JComnponent, JPanel and
the same in my jars - so I can avoid troubles.

Anyway, there may be even other reasons an Applet cannot be initialized -you
should provide further information :)
