AFAIK, referer page is the page that *linked* you to another page...

ie,

i'm browsing a page called --
        www.thesite.org/first_page.jsp

and that page has a link to second_page.jsp

When i click on that link and my browser requests second_page.jsp, the
server will log a hit for second_page.jsp. Among the info logged for
this hit will be the info on what page "sent" me to second_page.jsp

So in this case, when i go to the second_page.jsp and i have code like

request.getHeader("Referer");

this will return "first_page.jsp"
