Hi ,
JSP and Servlet are made in two different contexts . Servlet is not only
for presentation layer rather you can embed business logic into the java
code . yes , you can say you can do the same in jsp also , whats the big
deal . But think of a page which has a lot of processing before displaying
the actual html file ... in this case servlet programming will be a better
choice . a typical java programmer will always prefer servlet than jsp .
but of course in servlet presentation is totally mixed with actual code and
that is main drawback of servlet development . changing user interface is
really a nightmare .
Jsp is build on component architecture of java (java bean) where
presentation layer is separated from processing . if your requirement fits
in the jsp and bean model , always go for jsp , probably that will be a
better choice . In the other hand if you have coding experience in java and
your requirement does not suit well with jsp bean but a lot of processing is
required .. go for servlet ....correct me if I am wrong .

santanu

Subject: when should I use servlet instead of jsp?
Hi List,
It may sound stupid, but that is the nature of a newbie like
me.
I wonder if there is anything only can be accomplished by
servlet.
I know jsp is indeed servlet, but I just don't want putting
HTML
in my java code.
Regards
Dave
