hi,
You could just set a cookie and have that sent to the browser. The cookie
would contain the user name value. This could be set just before you have
response.sendRedirect(). Then when that cookie is sent proceed as before.
When you get to 4 you have the servlet look through all the cookies (an
example of this is on the servlet trails tutorial), and get the relevant
one which has the user name value in it (you can search by name), then
retrieve the value from it.
