I've been an Oracle(PL/SQL) developer for the last 8 years and took up java in
preparation of using Oracle 8i. I thought I would be able to call java stored
procedures on UNIX from servlets running on NT ( I haven't pulled that one off
yet). The idea being the heavy number crunching stuff would run faster on UNIX
and I wouldn't slow down the NT web server. I have practically no experience
writing web applications so I don't know if it will work or not. Now that I've
spent a lot of time, money, and effort learning about java (servlets), I'm being
confronted with, "I should use ASP instead of servlets".

I've read all I can find in the archives and from what I can tell there isn't
much difference between ASP and servlets aside from speed and portability. I've
been told by a coworker that anything I do with servlets can be done with ASP. I
don't know ASP. I don't want to change directions and learn ASP, VB script,
etc., and am now having to defend the choice of java servlets.

I like working with object oriented language. I think this makes my applications
more flexible. Can anyone tell me what servlets can do that ASP can not? I'd
like to hear from people who have experience with both.
