You have 4 choices :
1) give up on swing and get the effect you want with javascript etc.
2) Use swing against the built in JVM by adding a suitable 1.1
compatible
swing.jar to the archive tag. With some care you can squeeze the swing
jar to
500k, which is ok for an intranet but too slow in the big wide world.
3) use the plugin - which is an _initial_ 5Mb download on first use
(like Flash
or Adobe PDF). The pluging can be configured to cache _your_ jars
too, resulting in a quick(ish) startup thereafter.
4)Look at the JumpStart (is that right) stuff that lets you deliver a
javaapp
over the web.
(actually there is a variant on 2 which involves downloading swing.jar
into the classpath
of the MS JVM, for explorer, and then it is effectively cached there.)
