Try looking in your web application under the advanced tab in the app server
for the following parameters: Reload Interval and Auto Reload. Auto Reload must
be set to true. The default for Reload Interval is 9000 seconds which is way too
long. I usually reset this value to 5 seconds. I don't see any particular
performance hit because of this either. What these settings do it to tell
WebSphere to check the time stamp on the class files for your servlets, and if
they have changed (because you put something new there) then to reload the
class.

Subject: Getting Webserver to recognise a new Servlet has been loaded
Hello everyone
I'm very new to java and servlets, so you'll have to bear with me. I have a
question, though, which I hope someone can answer. The configuration at
work is DB2 on linux, with Websphere 3.5.
When I make changes to a servlet and recompile, it doesn't always see the
new .class file on the server after I've ftp'd it to the correct directory.
We quite often have to restart the server several times. I'm aware that it
might be the way Websphere is set up, but can anyone give me any pointers?
Much appreciated.
