 In Java, all method calls have to return to the caller,
either normally or by throwing an exception. On the
other hand, the spec[1] does say:

 8.4 Forward

   "Before the forward method of the RequestDispatcher
    interface returns, the response must be committed
    and closed by the servlet container."

    2.3PFD, but 2.2 says the same thing.
