I haven't been to any design patterns seminars, just read the
indispensable "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable
Object-Oriented Software," by Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph
Johnson, and John Vlissides (the so-called "Gang of Four"), "San
Francisco Design Patterns: Blueprints for Business Software," by
James Carey, Brent Carlson, and Tim Graser (with a forward by
Martin Fowler, who wrote "Refactoring: Improving the Design of
Existing Code"), and was fortunate enough to work with a genius
at my last dotcom who taught me a lot about their uses in
concrete code design and implementation. There is also an
excellent, albeit dated, article you might want to check out:
Glenn Krasner and Stephen Pope, "A cookbook for using the
model-view controller user interface paradigm in Smalltalk-80,"
Journal of Object-Oriented Programming, 1(3):26-49,
August/September 1988.
Finally, there's a pretty good article on using JSP with MVC by
Robert Brunner: "A Model View Controller Framework for JavaServer
Pages" ("Java Developer's Journal," Vol. 6, Issue 1, January
2001): 32ff.
Cheers!
Mark
