Hi, I'm trying to develop a diagnostic servlet that will allow us to insure we can deliver high-quality streaming media to anyone with a Java enabled browser. Anyone who has an "unusual" platform ( something other than Windows 2000/Pentium ) and wants to watch a short video is welcome to hit the following links. You can simply watch the video without doing anything else but if you want to read the instructions below you could provide me with some useful feedback on delivery quality. (The software will only collect as much info as is allowed by your browser security settings.) Thanks! At Eyewonder, we are constantly trying to assure that we deliver the highest quality streaming experience to the widest possible audience. To help us achieve this objective, we have developed the following program that records information about your computer and correlates this with your comments on some streaming media. Performing the actions below will provide us with this valuable information and it will only take a few minutes ( even for inexperienced computer users). Note that the performance you will observe is not what can be expected from our production software. The performance is degraded slightly to allow us to collect information useful for product improvement. If you wish to see a demo of some of our production software, please visit www.eyewonder.com . INSTRUCTIONS ============ In order to run this program, you need a web browser and an internet connection. This program is most helpful to us if you set your browser security level as low as possible but useful information is still obtained with default levels. 1) Point Browser to desired URL. A video should play and an "EYE SPY" window should pop-up. ( NOTE: The data collection software is not designed for production. It may have bugs or possibly cause your browser to hang-up.) Some of the URL's do not have data collection software attached and can be used for comparison. The "spy" is the data collection software and the number is the minimum amount of bandwidth that you need to play the file properly( files labelled 56k can be played over a 56k modem connection, 100k should have a solid broadband connection). EyeSpy Applet Test URL's: ======================== ================ ============================= http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/testSync.html (56k, no spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/testSyncm.html (56k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/testm.html (<56k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test4.html (100k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test3.html (56k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test2128.html (56k, no spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test2128m.html (56k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test2.html (56k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/test.html (<56k, no spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/sync2t.html (200k, no spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/sync2m.html (200k, spy) http://www.eyewonder.tv/EWTest/mike/servlet/testLinks/sync2.html ======================================================================= 2) Watch the video in the browser or see 3) if the video does not play. Watch the video and listen to the audio while looking for any characteristics that are undesirable. We have identified common failure modes and made buttons on the Eye Spy menu to allow you to tell us that these conditions are occuring. These buttons are labelled: "STUTTER" - The audio is making "clicking" noises or has gaps in it. "FROZEN"- The video has stopped and shows no signs of continuing. "PROBLEM"- something looks wrong, but is not specified elsewhere. "SYNC OFF" - The audio does not coincide with the video. If this video shows a person talking, the lips are not moving at the appropriate times. "PLAY OK" - There are no longer any undesirable characteristics in the audio or video streams. Additionally, you can right-click on the video to view a status line in the browser and to enable collection of additional information. 3) Hit "SAVE" when the video is done or you have finished watching it. IF THE VIDEO DOES NOT PLAY, Please hit "SAVE" so that we can try to diagnose the problem using whatever information the EyeSpy was able to obtain about the error condition. 4) Hitting "status" or "IO stats" at various times will provide us with more information. These are primarily designed for interactive debugging with EyeWonder technical staff. Please mail any additional comments to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or enter them in the EyeSpy text area and hit "SAVE" Thanks.
