 Before you do anything else, figure out _exactly_ what's
slow. Until you do that, there's no point in trying to
optimize anything. It might not even be the database.
Your database probably has some sort of monitoring tool,
try it out and see if the queries are taking a long time.
If they are, a connection pool isn't likely to help the
performance. Or if the queries are fast, maybe it's the
connection open/close that's slowing you down and a
pool would help. No way to tell in advance, it might be
something else entirely.
