Try the archive on the performance issue; that question has been raised a number of times here. As for "real world uses," just serf the web, dude. Servlets are all over the place! And you might try your company's intranet - mine uses servlets for our consulting projects time-tracking and billable hours as well as our web-based email system. Cheers!
