Hi,

May I suggest to switch to Resin (www.caucho.com)? It reloads servlets
automatically. It even can compile servlets automatically for you (just put
the source file instead of the classes). You will sometimes have to restart
because of some depedencies, but it restarts in about 1/10th of the time
needed by Tomcat (plus you just have to click a button).

Also, it installs in 10 seconds and works without any configuration.

You can't avoid it.

Tomcat 3.x documentation says that servlet reloading is an expermental
feature. I use 3.2.3 and I stop and restart when I change my servlets.
