If an individual servlet program is concerned,
I think maybe
response.setHeader("Transfer-Encoding", "chunked");
might work well ? (Please have a try. )
I have no direct experience with Tomcat,
but I think a response's protocol version is rather
decided by the Web server
than by the servlet container.

Thanks for the links to the great tutorials.
My question was how to make the servlet/server respond with a chunked
encoding response.
After posting my question I saw a link to the archive. It seems that the
servlet spec does not address chencked encoding and it is up to the
individual servlet container. Is that a true statement? Can Tomcat
generate a HTTP/1.1 responsse? or chunked response?
