as the
other contributors have said it is possible -but be carefull not to generate
your command based on user input(i.e. from a form), a common hack pattern is to
put legitimate UNIX/DOS commands in form fields on the off chance that it will
be parsed and run in the shell when processed.

program on a server side using servlets...
For example, I have a firewall on my server
and I want to control it thru my browser using a servlet.
