My problem is I use my computer for everything!!! I dual boot bith Linux, but am a newbie at that too! I can't drop windows MW because I use my computer for everything... even to speak to family and friends back home...(though I can't agree more it is the shittiest OPS) and I can't get my network card to work on Linux... so until I can't figure out Linux properly I am stuck with Me. I will drop Tomcat 4.0 right away. and Install Tomcat 3.2 right away and look at the
I will try and set up Windows 2000 too.
You put your finger right on the problem... I have not set the system enviornment variables properly! I am not sure how you do that exactly!!! The documentation for Tomcat 4.0 is a bit vague on how you do this... I will read 3.2 documentation and see if it explains it a bit better!
My tom cat examples worked just fine, I used that source code and tried to compile it, but it did not work!

Subject: Re: Servlet Tomcat question

Ditch Tomcat 4.0 until it's stable and has widespread support (all the Sun implementations are using Tomcat 3.2), and install 3.2 or 3.3 instead.  ME is a shit OS and you should change your OS to Windows 2000 Pro.

Otherwise, what particular things do you not understand about the documentation?  This technology is not rocket science, but it does require very close attention to detail.

From your msg, it appears that you have not set the appropriate system environmental variables.  Can you get the Tomcat examples to work?

Cheers!
Mark

Subject: Servlet Tomcat question

I am new to this. I installed Tomcat successfully. I tried to compile a simple servlet, but the compiler could not find the the necessary servlet classes... I have windows me operating system. I read about setting JAVA_HOME, but all documents assume previous knowledge!?! I read a document on the Tomcat file hirarchy. I read the Jakarta Tomkat 4.0 Documents from a to z, but still am a bit a a loss... can't seem to put my mind around it to understand it enough. Any help would be trully appreciated.
