No. WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.0 supports Servlet 2.2. See the WAS Advanced Edition (AE) InfoCenter documentation online at http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/v40/ae/infocenter/index.h tml, open the "Application Server AE" menu, click on "Getting Started", and then the "What is new in Version 4.0.x" item for what's new/supported in this release.
