Hi Michael,
Just stop trying autoexec.bat
    Try this..
OPen catalina.bat file which is in bin directory of ur
tomcat4.0.1.
   set java_home=c:\jdk1.3 Before the statement
if not "%JAVA_HOME%" == "" goto gotJava

save it.and try again.
