i suppose, now that i have downloaded Java Mail API,
its good that u include all the jar files required in the classpath.
ie
mailapi.jar
pop3.jar
smtp.jar

but i really doubt if the porblem is because of activation.jar not being
present.
it is not very much clear from ur mail if the compiler has a problem
finding javax or
finding javax.mail
if the problem with javax package...
then
yes....inlcuding activation.jar may sove ur problem
