I've been running WinMe for some time now, and I don't think it has a
significant impact on SETI@home performance compared to 98 or 98SE. For me,
the main difference between 98SE and Me is that Me has 2000's desktop and
menuing, the latter of which is faster than 98SE's. Me does boot faster
with a fresh install because it gets rid of some old unused protected mode
stuff, but I don't think it's really any more stable than 98SE. I used 98SE
before this and I think I have to reboot about the same amount. Me's
performance on games and applications is a touch below 98/98SE's because
there's a little more overhead, but from the benchmarks I've seen, you
probably couldn't tell the difference. If you already have a previous
version of 98 there's no compelling reason to get Me unless you need the
new OS file protection thing or ICS if you have original 98.
