Have you checked for viruses?
  Also, if you have installed another program,or changed any other hardware,  that
may have something to do with it.
I changed video cards in my P3 600 & went from 12 hours, to 19 hours average for a
data unit . It's  running Win 98 S E  .Cured it by finding updated drivers for the
new card.
 I also have one on M E , but don't see much difference in the time it takes .
