Thanks for the advice. Since I mostly just wanted the CSS back, I followed Alexander Limi's helpful advice and looked in my browser cache - I've never been so grateful for Microsoft's spying habits! It took a while to sort out the custom parts from the rendered file, but I learned a lot about CSS and Plone in the process.
Now I'm using DIYPloneStyle to do almost all of my customizations. This is much easier to backup, as the stylesheets are all on the filesystem. When things go wrong, I can just reinstall Plone and drop in my skin product.
