By my experience, if there are no errors in any of the event.log files, the most common problem is that something is already occupying the ZEO port (8100, unless you change it).

Usually, that something is a prior running of ZEO itself. It's very easy to do that, and if you've reinstalled the ZEO instance may even effectively be a Zombie, divorced from any controlling program.

I've got Plone-3.0.2 installed using the Unified Installer on Ubuntu Fawn,
the root install/zeocluster option. The installer works great (*thank you,*
Kamal Gill and Steve McMahon). The problem is that the zeocluster will not
start, and the event logs show the following errors:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2007-10-22T10:22:02 INFO root spawned process pid=695
------
2007-10-22T10:22:03 INFO root sleep 1 to avoid rapid restarts
------
2007-10-22T10:22:03 INFO root pid 695: exit status 2; exiting now
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am following the directions in adminPassword.txt and am using sudo in the
command line to start the zeocluster. I've seen these event-log errors
previously in association with directory/file permissions. Is that what's
going on? Recommendations, anyone?
