First, don't rub it in - it's 9am here in NY :( My end of day is long off.

Second, I guess I just need to point always to the 2.4 installation with -d
flags on apt-get and run the python2.4 command instead of just python. 

I hope that will work.

Just a tip, you can call a particular python using "python2.4" or
"python2.5".  Calling your python "python" will use the default system
python bin.

So, you can do something like "python2.4 ez_setup.py" will install
easy_install in your python2.4...
